EMDR
This effective method for lessening physical and emotional reactions to trauma also helps alleviate the long-term psychological impact.

What Is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing?
Meadows programs are world-renowned for their use of state-of-the-art methodologies to treat unresolved emotional trauma. One of these methods is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an effective therapy for PTSD and other past trauma. Talk therapy alone is not enough to resolve the chronic symptoms left behind by the survival reaction to trauma. Nearly all patients who receive EMDR therapy report greater general wellness and significant decreases in trauma-related symptoms.
EMDR is a powerful, effective, and safe method for alleviating the long-term psychological impact of traumatic experiences.

HOW IT WORKS
In short, EMDR changes the way the brain responds to external stimuli. It is administered by a trained clinician who uses lights, gentle buzzing from handheld devices, or sounds heard through headphones. In the case of sound, as the sensory input switches back and forth from the right to left headphone speaker, a patient tries to recall past trauma. Though the memories of the trauma remain, the chronic bodily and emotional reactions to the trauma dissolve.
EMDR, PTSD, and Trauma
EMDR has proven to be an effective therapy for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and a safe method for alleviating the long-term psychological impact of traumatic experiences. For many individuals, survival reactions are only experienced in short bursts, but those who suffer from chronic trauma symptoms experience longer-term survival reactions leaving issues unresolved. EMDR helps to alleviate those reactions and lessen negative responses.
